Mental Health

This presentation explores what mental health is and how it differs from mental illness, helping you to develop a clearer understanding of the spectrum of mental wellbeing. The session focuses on two of the most common mental health conditions - Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Depression - examining their key symptoms, possible causes, and risk factors.

You will also learn practical ways to improve and maintain positive mental wellbeing, including adopting self-care strategies and building protective factors that support long-term resilience. Examples of protective factors will be discussed at both an individual level - such as maintaining healthy coping mechanisms, setting boundaries, and engaging in regular physical activity - and a family level, including open communication, emotional support, and strong relationships.

By the end of the presentation, you will have a deeper understanding of how to recognise signs of poor mental health, promote self-care, and strengthen personal and social supports that enhance wellbeing.

Building Confidence & Self-Awareness of the Qualities You Have

This resource explores how to understand and strengthen confidence while developing self-awareness of personal qualities and strengths. Confidence isn’t about being perfect or fearless—it’s about trusting your abilities and learning from experience.

The journey begins with a TED Talk by Alyssa Dver, which explains how confidence is a skill that can be learned, practiced, and developed over time. Her insights encourage a mindset shift from seeing confidence as fixed to viewing it as something that grows through awareness and positive action.

Next, use the traits table to reflect on qualities you have demonstrated in the past. Identifying these traits helps to recognise personal strengths, build self-belief, and reinforce how these qualities can be applied in new situations.

The session concludes with a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) anchoring technique, offering a practical way to create a positive emotional “anchor.” This tool can help evoke feelings of calm, confidence, and strength whenever needed.

By the end, you’ll have a clearer understanding of what confidence means to you, a stronger awareness of your abilities, and a practical strategy to boost self-assurance in everyday life.

Assistive Technology

This presentation explores different assistive technologies designed to make reading, writing, thinking, and organising easier. Tools like read aloud, text-to-speech, and speech-to-text support reading and writing, while predictive text, Grammarly, and ChatGPT enhance communication. Mind mapping helps visualise ideas, and diaries, to-do lists, and scheduling apps support organisation. Together, these technologies empower individuals to work more effectively and independently.

Identifying & Knowing Your Strengths

A lack of confidence is something many of our clients experience, often making it difficult for them to recognise their own strengths. This presentation aims to gently build self-awareness and self-esteem by first exploring the strengths we admire in others - whether it’s kindness, determination, creativity, or resilience. By identifying what we value in others, we create a natural bridge to uncovering and appreciating our own unique qualities. Through reflection and self-discussion, participants are guided to recognise their personal strengths and understand how these can be used to move forward with greater confidence and purpose.

Stress, Sleep, & Appetite

Stress can disrupt both sleep and appetite by triggering hormonal changes that affect our body’s natural rhythms. Practicing relaxation techniques and self-care - like mindful breathing, regular meals, and a calming bedtime routine - can help to restore balance and support overall wellbeing. This presentation helps you to understand these impacts and provide a few relaxation skills to implement within your routine.
